Goalposts

Structural Solutions

As customers look for more ways to include attractive features like bifold doors and other large spans, conservatories and extensions require even greater structural support.

That’s why we supply goalposts. In addition to other features like supporting eaves beams, goalposts help to ensure there is no racking within the structure. Get in touch with our Coleshill team for more information.

Lateral Stability Explained

Structural Support Guide

Performance Engineering

1

Each goalpost is structurally engineered to the roof system it supports, helping to ensure a cost effective solution.

2

We make it simple to order goalposts that are perfectly suited to your roofing system.

3

With goalposts, we can ensure that the lateral stability is improved for larger spans and doors over 10m wide.

4

Rather than manufacturing posts with a separate fabricator, goalposts are specified when ordering, and Ultraframe engineers design it to spec.

5

Since these goalposts are light enough to be lifted into place without additional machinery, they can be joined with another post at a fixed point.

Header Beams with Goalposts

The Ultraframe goalpost suite includes a range of header sizes to suit the height of the door frame, so that door movement is not inhibited.

The length of the header beam is produced to order, which can be especially helpful for larger installations.

There is also the choice of reinforced header beams, which can withstand greater loads with smaller profiles. This provides a solution to any height limitations.

Ultimate Stability

In typical conservatory or extensions projects, there are different support systems to ensure lateral stability:

  • Brick pillars, according to Document A regulations, typically between 665mm and 777.5mm.
  • 500mm window returns, with fixed lights, fully packed and reinforced.

However, Ultraframe provide two different systems that help reinforce the structure: goalposts and Super Insulated Columns. These two unique systems work in tandem to provide greater stability.

Compatible Roof Systems

The Goalposts are engineered to suit the Glass Roof and the Livinroof whilst sitting discreetly behind the eaves beam for cleaner lines.

They work exceptionally well with glass roofs and internal pelmets to conceal the goalpost. Combining the goalpost with the super bolster can allow spans of up to 6.5m. Speak with our Birmingham team for more information.

Connection Details

We typically recommend single header beams for elevations with large door spans. If you’re looking to create an airy open structure, you may want two or three header beams. They can also join to a wall plate at the host wall, or spreader plate (with brick piers). Posts should be used at corners or inline. View the base plates which come with four pre-drilled holes for bolting and 4 pre-drilled holes for fixing to the posts. You can choose to fix them centrally or at the corner on site.

FAQ

Read through our most frequently asked questions, or give us a ring on 01675 465462.

What are goalposts?

Goalposts are structural elements that provide additional structure, often in conjunction with brick pillars and reinforced glass.

Why do conservatories or orangeries need goalposts?

Conservatories and orangeries must have structural support to prevent racking in high winds or distending the eaves under heavy snow loads. Now that minimal designs are becoming more popular, this is more important than ever.

Where do you deliver?

We deliver our products nationally and can offer low lead times on select products. Even more importantly, we can deliver directly to your installation site.

What goalpost leg options do you offer?

Ultraframe provides two square leg, and one in-line leg.

The 70 x 70mm square option is standard.

The 102 x 100mm square option is used in conjunction with the 200 x 102mm header beam.

Our inline 150 x 50mm header beam can be used as a goalpost leg for aesthetic reasons, as an inline goalpost leg behind the middle door frame.
